Thalia's first months

In January, Thalia moved from Greece to the Netherlands. In the same month, she started at Mobeco Group B.V. as our newest Recruitment Consultant. Get to know her a little more by reading about her first months!

Give a little introduction about yourself and describe your role in Mobeco.

I am Thalia, a young HR professional from Greece. I have 3 years of experience in recruitment and executive search. I am part of Mobeco as a Recruitment Consultant, where I focus on the recruitment process, especially in the maritime sector. In Mobeco, I create opportunities by assembling the top engineering professionals all over Europe, and ship- and yacht-building companies in the Netherlands.

You recently moved to the Netherlands; how was the adjustment period?

In the first few weeks, I had a "holiday" feeling, but now I am starting to get used to it, and I like it more and more every day. I understand the differences between the cultures more deeply, but I would like to discover them and be part of this new world for me.

What were your initial impressions of working at Mobeco, and how did they compare to your first month?

The recruitment process seems to be different from what I was used to, and the tools are advanced, but the environment in the office helped me to feel safe and comfortable in those first weeks.

Also, the Mobeco team is open-minded and supports me every day. At the same time, they made me feel welcome, and I am always free to express myself and my thoughts.

What new skills or knowledge have you acquired in your first month?

Of course, using the English language in daily life, especially at work, was a challenge for me, but communicating with candidates from different countries has also trained me to adapt to a new way of thinking and observe differently in any situation.

For the time being, my focus is on electrical design engineering, a brand-new discipline for me, where I had the opportunity to understand how this sector works, especially in each country and each company. Now, I feel proud that I have learned so many things in just 2 months, and I am open to discovering all the disciplines in the maritime industry.

What is a new skill that you want to learn this year?

I would like to improve my Dutch and adopt a satisfactory level of communication in this language. I believe that it could also help me in further collaboration with our current clients, and at the same time, it will support the expansion of our network with new potential companies – clients and candidates.

Any victory moments you would like to share about your first month?

Until now, we have received positive feedback from the companies with whom we are collaborating about the candidates we have presented to them, and at the same time, we have plenty of candidates at the final step.

If there was a quote describing you or your life motto, what would that be?

My motto is, “There is no growth without discomfort. " To relate this phrase more to our sector, “A ship in a harbour is safe, but it’s not fulfilling its potential.”
